I am lucky I have been to many places this summer and my favourite one is Ischia, La Isola Verde, The green Island as they call it. Two hours by boat from Naples, well-known in Italy, I had never heard of it or seen 3240 photos on Insta before leaving and I was not expecting anything really.
Well I was amazed by this island, it is so peaceful with pretty cactus and pink walls everywhere, the dream of all Instagram girls. There were a few tourist and people were sooooo friendly, nothing like Capri and Positano.
THE "Dolce Vita".
A great place to meet my sister after a year apart. So the sisters went crazy with the camera, even more than before!
WHERE TO STAY?
We stayed at Hotel Da Maria in Cartaromana on the East coast. The place is unique and magical, perfect for a honeymoon. A little bay accessible by little boat or long stairs, A big terrasse with flowers, pretty tiles, nice bedroom with a balcony offering an incredible view on the Castle Aragonese, Castello Aragonese.
The hotel has a term pool, a restaurant and a private beach. Taking the boat from/to Ischia Ponte to/from the hotel cost 3 euros. This is amazing to get to the hotel like that, just magical.
If you are looking at 5 stars hotel there is Scanella Hotel or
Albergo della Regina Isabella but you won't find the same charm as Hotel Da Maria.
HOW TO VISIT THE ISLAND?
I think the best way is to rent a car or a scooter (25 euros/day) to be free to stop wherever you want. The island is small and in one day we went around in scooter stopping at Ischia, Lacco Ameno, Forio and Sant' Angelo. It was too short, I think 4 days is good enough and one week perfect to visit the island and around.
WHAT TO DO?
1. ISCHIA PONTE & CASTELLO ARAGONESE
I absolutely loved Ischia Ponte, an old village with a real Italian atmosphere and a stunning view on the Aragonese Castle, on the top of a volcanic mount. You can also visit the castle,
2. LACCO AMENO
On the North part of the island, a lovely colourful little port, a nice beach with a view on a mushroom rock.
Stop at the Albergi della Regina Isabella for a coffee and you might meet a Hollywood star. (Jeremy Irons for me :)
3. GIARDINI LA MORTELLA
We didn't get the time to visit the gardens but it is one of the Main attraction and definitely worth a visit. (Entry: 12 euros) At the end of the road you will find a stunning viewpoint.
4. FORIO & CHIESA DEL SOCCORSO
Better to visit at sunset, the church has a unique location with a seaview and mountain view. We went at day time and it was very beautiful too. Forio is a lovely and peaceful little town and I loved to wander in its little streets.
Where to eat? Bar Maria caffe internazionale, the place with the fountain is very cute, the food and icecreams are delicious.
Stop by on the road to make the most of the view then walk around in the little white village. So pretty!
Where to have a drink? Bar des pirates right at the bottom.
6. OTHER VISITS
Other ideas of visit if you stay more than 3 days:
-Baia de San Montano
-Baio de Sorgeto
-Spend the day in a term such as Poseidon
