HIN TA AND HIN YAI ROCKS
This is my favourite place in Samui, also known as Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks, located South of Lamai Beach. They look like a male and female genital parts and tell a legend, not very happy actually, the story of an old couple, Grandpa Kreng and Grandma Riem who drawn in the sea on the way to ask the hand of a girl to marry their son, and changed into rocks to prove their actual intention to the girl's parents.
In the small market you can try some specialties like delicious coconut sweets and go up to Lamai view point.
I just love to watch the sunset there, have a shake at the ROCK BAR, the coolest place on the island, hidden in between rocks, trees and bamboos just listen to the good music, watch the fire shows at night, dance on the little private beach, that place is just UNIQUE and opens 24/24. The staff live there and are really chilled. We definitely need a place like this in Dubaï.
NAMUANG WATERFALL
Driving from Lamai it will take you 20 min by motorbike, turn right at Namuang sign, you will see a sign Waterfall 80m. Usually tourists are taken to the small ones but this is the best one. You can swim in the fresh water, jump from the big rock, just watch the Thais first so you know where to jump and don't end up in hospital. On the left side of the waterfall take the stairs, I know it's scary but the view from the top is amazing.
SILVER BEACH
This is my favourite beach on Koh Samui, the most romantic one, also known as Coral Cove Bay. The sand is beautiful, the water crystal clear, there aren't the vendors who can annoy you on other beaches, just a few resorts and restaurants, have a massage, a fresh coconut and take your snorkles you can see amazing colourful fishes next to the rocks. To access, park your motorbike at Thongtakian Resort and walk through the lovely bungalows.
MAGIC GARDEN
The drive to the waterfall is absolutely stunning, a bit steep so go only if you master the driving. At the top you will find the magic garden, a tropical rainforest garden with khmer statues. Watch out for the spiders and snakes! Everytime I went I saw snakes...
KOH TAN
If you want to go on a day trip you can rent a fisherman boat on the south west part of Samui and spend the day on that island (pretty much deserted).
KITE BEACH
Located next to the Tiger Zoo, I just love to go there and watch the kites. It's always pretty deserted and very relaxing.
MY FAVOURITE ADRESSES
A cool place with a view to have lunch is JUNGLE CLUB, call them and they will pick you up on the main road (too steep to go by yourself)
A good local restaurant for lunch is ONG RESTAURANT in between the 2 French Bakeries in Lamai (on the other side of the road), don't be afraid of the decor, the food is absolutely delicious and for diner head to the LAMAI FOOD NIGHT MARKET in the centre of the lamai beach road, you can sit on big tables at the back of the stalls, it's quite nice because it's so cheap and you always meet people. On Saturday night you can also watch some fights in the middle of the bars, don't be scared of the bar girls, they can be quite funny.
To go out head to ARK BAR in Chaweng then GREEN MANGO for a little boogie.
For a delicious sunday brunch with DJ and live saxophonist and bangos, head to NIKKI BEACH (prices went up thought and you have to pay for a bed now in addition)
To exercice and try Muay Thai/Thai boxing go to JUN GYM take the street facing the petrol station in Lamai, it will be on your right after the 1st intersection.
Enjoy!
